1. How does the LECHUZA irrigation system work?

The LECHUZA self-watering system is designed to keep your plants healthy without the need for constant watering. It works as follows:

  1. Planting Phase: Place the plant in the planter using soil or our LECHUZA-PON substrate. The internal separator creates a water reservoir at the bottom.
  2. Initial Watering Phase: For the first 12 weeks, water the plant from above as usual to allow its roots to grow and reach the water reservoir.
  3. Self-Watering: Once the roots have grown sufficiently, the plant will start absorbing water directly from the reservoir through capillary action, taking only what it needs.
  4. Water Level Indicator: The indicator lets you know when it's time to refill the reservoir. When the water level reaches "min.," the dry phase begins, lasting between 2 to 10 days, depending on the plant type. After this period, simply refill the reservoir up to "max." and the cycle repeats.

This system not only reduces watering frequency but also prevents overwatering and improves root aeration, promoting healthier growth.

2. Can I use regular soil in LECHUZA planters?

Yes, you can use regular soil, but we recommend using LECHUZA-PON, our premium substrate, to improve aeration and drainage, ensuring optimal plant growth.

Do all LECHUZA planters include LECHUZA-PON substrate?

Yes, all our planters with the classic irrigation system include an initial amount of LECHUZA-PON to ensure optimal drainage and water distribution.

4. Can LECHUZA planters be used outdoors?

Yes, all LECHUZA planters are made with UV-resistant and weatherproof materials, making them perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. They also include a drainage plug that allows excess rainwater to drain out.

5. How do I choose the right pot size for my plant?

We recommend choosing a pot that provides enough space for the plant’s roots to grow. You can refer to our size guide or contact us for personalized advice.

6. How long does the water last in the reservoir before I need to refill it?

It depends on the type of plant, location, and season, but in general, the water reservoir can last up to 12 weeks, significantly reducing watering frequency.

7. Can I use soil in LECHUZA planters, or is LECHUZA-PON substrate required?

It is recommended to use LECHUZA-PON in LECHUZA planters for optimal performance, as it ensures proper drainage and water distribution. However, soil can be used if preferred, but it may not provide the same benefits as the LECHUZA-PON substrate.

8. How do I clean and maintain my LECHUZA planter?

LECHUZA planters are very easy to clean. Simply use a damp cloth and mild soap to remove dust or dirt. Avoid abrasive products that could damage the finish.

9. Are LECHUZA planters safe for pets?

Yes, our materials are non-toxic and safe for pets and children. Additionally, the design of the irrigation system prevents direct contact with water, reducing the risk of accidents.

10. Can I transplant my plant into a LECHUZA planter if it's already in another pot with soil?

Absolutely! Just carefully remove the plant from its current pot, shake off the excess soil, and place it in the LECHUZA planter with LECHUZA-PON or a mix of PON and soil, ensuring proper drainage.
